Janet Kohl’s Restoration of Spirit, in this case, took the form of a Designer Showcase House and Garden.  Designers were invited to create environments emphasizing the use of spirituality and the arts to make a sanctuary of the home, a concept culled from the book Kohl is writing of the same title. 

The project was a fundraiser for Great Oaks School, a developing Waldorf school in Skokie, Illinois.  Waldorf schools provide an alternative approach to education based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner and his emphasis on music, the arts and spirituality in the classroom and within the home. The original idea of a Showcase house was the brainchild of Harriet Ross, Special Events Fundraiser for Great Oaks School.  The impetus to make it happen came from Judy Shaver, a member of the Great Oaks Board of Directors and co-chair of the School’s Development Committee.
