The Front (and Back) Porch
As we approached this project, we saw a home cherished by a young and growing family just starting a lifetime of collecting both objects and memories. We believe in the spirit of a "porch culture" that used to exist in the bygone era. Therefore, our porch is meant to be more than a fanciful segue into an airtight house. Rather, the porch is a room that is as important as any other with all the same attention to detail.
We used simple designs that reflect the quiet beauty of the architecture. We used soft, worn colors that remind us of aprons dusted with flour and grandma's old rag rugs. We see baskets overflowing with needlework, books, and magazines. We hear the banging back and forth of the screen door and children's gleeful voices fading into the din of crickets and fireflies and starlight. We smell of fresh baked bread wafting from the neighbor lady's kitchen and a gentle, cool summer breeze bring with it the fragrant aroma of honeysuckle that clings to the top of the porch. |
